AGING POPULATION – AN OVERVIEW

Population aging has a brief history. In 1950, no country in the world had more than 11 percent of its population aged 65 and over. In 2000, this figure had reached 18 percent.

In 2013, the aged population (65 years and over) was 31.90 million, constituting 25.1 percent of the total population. By 2050, population aging was expected to reach 38.8 percent.
